This was such a great idea for a contest! An excellent example of using viral marketing and social media outlets to promote a new record by one of my favorite bands, Strung Out. The contest was first announced on MySpace on June 12th, 2007, and contestants were required to send an e-mail to Fat Wreck Chords with a YouTube link.
I had a good laugh when watching the finalists on YouTube. I wish I would have entered… if I knew the slightest bit about Jordon Burns’ drumming, or thought of a clever idea to make a fool out of myself. My vote for the best air drummer was Ian Bruski.

We posted the finalists from the Strung Out Air Drummer contest in the poll section on the front page. Watch the videos below and go vote on them right now because we are announcing the winners on July 11th. I know we said we would only have 3 finalists but we got so many awesome videos that we decided to expand the competition and give the top 3 winners the prizes and we’ll even scrounge up something for the 4th and 5th place contestants.
