A Few of My Favorite Concerts

Since I was 14 years old (back in 1995) I have saved quite a few concert tickets from some of my favorite shows. You can see I am somewhat biased toward Punk Rock, but I did include a ticket from Lollapalooza. Below are a few of my favorite shows (in no particular order). Click on the image to view a larger version.

1. Good Riddance @ Agora Ballroom - 7/5/02
The only time I saw Good Riddance headline a show in Cleveland. I remember getting on stage for “Steps” and then doing a stage dive.

2. Vans Warped Tour @ Cloverleaf Flea Market - 7/24/96
Best Warped Tour ever! In my hometown of Valley View, Ohio - due to a last minute venue change. Great line-up: Pennywise, NOFX, Face to Face, Unwritten Law, to name a few. I shaved a Pennywise logo on the back of my brother’s head and he was asked to go on stage by Pennywise during their set. They gave him two options. Do a massive stage dive, or hang out with the bands backstage. He chose the stage dive… I think he still regrets that decision to this day. The tour ended when a big thunderstorm blew out Face to Face’s speakers.

3. MxPx @ Ron’s Crossroads - 3/17/96
A little dive bar in Akron that did not allow any form of moshing. Mike from MxPx was sick as a dog that night, but still put on a great show. My buddy Scott got on stage to sing Punk Rawk Show.

4. Beastie Boys @ CSU Convocation Center - 8/14/98
This concert was right after Hello Nasty came out. My favorite Beastie Boy’s album. Was very cool to see them play instruments on a rotating stage.

5. Lollapalooza @ Blossom Music Center - 7/22/95
First “big” rock concert. I was a big fan of Hole and Courtney Love at the time. She made the mistake of stage diving, then getting her dress ripped off. Too bad I didn’t have a closer view after that happened. : )

6. Rise Against @ The Grog Shop - 1/2/05
First time I saw Rise Against headline a show, and first show seen at The Grog Shop. They played with A Wilhelm Scream, another one of my favorite bands.

7. The Dropkick Murphys @ Agora Theatre - 10/12/01
I don’t remember much from this show, but I have never been disappointed at a Dropkick’s show.

8. Mighty Mighty Bosstones @ Newport Music Hall - 11/16/96
Traveled with my big bro to Columbus for this show. I remember it was packed and standing off to the side of the stage in front of the speaker. Couldn’t hear much the next day.

9. Strung Out @ Euclid Tavern - 7/27/00
I wished I could have seen more shows at The Tavern before it closed. Such a great place. Strung Out is one of the most amazing bands, and I was just starting to get into their music at the time of this show.

10. Pennywise @ Odeon - 10/31/95
First punk concert… on Halloween! Jim came out wearing a mask. I sat off to the side with Mudd Henry because we were both scrawny little teens and the pit looked pretty rough. There was so much energy at the show, and this is what really got me in to punk rock.

It’s Time For A Design!

Any human visitors or spambots coming to this site may have noticed my sporadic postings dating back to 2005… not to mention the default design template being used.

That’s about to change.

This week while on vacation I have been chipping away at improving my blog: adding new categories, a blogroll, Flickr photos, RSS feed, Google Analytics. Although I nearly blew away all my previous posts while upgrading Wordpress, I’m getting excited about keeping this vehicle maintained. Sitting by the pool, relaxed, and with a clear head, I came up with a few ideas for a logo. Playing off the name of the blog “No Time to Burn,” I initially wanted to create a clock on fire. This seemed pretty logical, but I thought it may be hard to create, as my artistic skills (and free time) have dropped a few notches over the years. Then it hit me… find a digital display looking font, and have it read “NT:TB” - simple, yet effective.

Step 1
- Complete!
Step 2
- Create logo and color scheme (in progress)
Step 3
- Tinker with Wordpress template (the hard part)
Step 4
- More tinkering
Other to-dos:
- Install plugin to reduce the vast amount of comment spam I still get (even though comments are disabled)
- Add social bookmarking icons
- Create a favorites icon
- Meta tags (description and keywords)

Indians vs. Devil Rays at Tropicana Field

View pictures from my visit to Tropicana Field on 4/20/07.

Here’s an article on MLB.com recapping the game.

This was my first time seeing a major league game played indoors. Tropicana Field is a very nice stadium, and it’s a shame the Devil Rays don’t draw much of a crowd. I couldn’t have asked to see a better game. It was a close game all 9 innings, the Indians won, C.C. pitched great (although a no-decision), Pronk hit a dinger (but had 2 baserunning blunders) and Borowski didn’t blow the game. If you ever get a chance to see a game at Tropicana, make sure to visit Ferg’s across the street for a pre/post-game food and drinks.

Punk Rock Dad

From Punknews.org: “Jim Lindberg of Pennywise will soon be releasing his memoir on parenting, Punk Rock Dad. Originally announced in December of 2005, the book follows the Pennywise singer as he raises his three daughters. The book is being published by HarperCollins and is due out May 1st.”

Although I don’t have any kids at the moment, I plan on raising a family in the future. I’m really looking forward to reading this book soon, as Jim Lindberg is a favorite singer and songwriter of mine. Now, I just need to get my brother (who has a kid) to buy this book. Then I can borrow it.

Pennywise - “Time to Burn”

Time - never bothered me
Till I saw it slipping slowly away from me
And time took my years away
Give me back my memories of a better day
And now I’ve got a lot to lose
I’ve got a lot to learn
And no time to burn

Rain - spoiled a sunny day
Till I saw those cleansing drops took the dirt away
And change always frightened me
Till I changed into the man I always knew I could be
